Every year, United Way and AARP help thousands of Quad Citizens prepare their income taxes, free of charge, with our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and AARP Tax Aide programs.
Since 2020, VITA & AARP Tax Aide have help return $17.9 MILLION to local families!
Tax preparation is offered in person primarily by appointment, with an option for walk-in services, from February 1 through April 9. For further information about VITA call 563.355.4310. Appointments are limited and expected to fill fast.
Free tax assistance is available to Scott (IA) and Rock Island (IL) county residents who:
*Residents wanting to file out-of-state returns (other than IA or IL) are not eligible.
IRS-certified volunteers will prepare and file your federal and state tax returns all in the same day. You’ll need to remain in-person while your taxes are prepared. This process can range from 45 minutes to a few hours depending on the complexity of the tax return and how busy the site is.

In the past three years, VITA & AARP tax aide have helped return about $12 Million to families & individual filers in the area.
The Quad Cities VITA Coalition is powered by a team of compassionate and dedicated volunteers who care about our community. Learn more about volunteering with us and see why nearly 550 people have donated more than 26,500 hours to serve Quad Citizens since 2020.
Our IRS-trained and certified volunteers have helped 15,146 Quad Citizens becoming financially secure since 2020. This volunteer opportunity will also add value to your resume and allow you to network with a diverse group of individuals.
No prior experience or tax knowledge is necessary.
