VITA: Free Tax Preparation

United Way each year helps hundreds of local families prepare their income taxes, free of charge, with our Volunteer Income Tax Assistant (VITA) program.

How it Works

Trained volunteers will prepare taxes for FREE for Quad Citizens with a household income of $57,000 or less — and make sure you receive all tax credits you are eligible for including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC). The program launches every year in January.

In the previous three years in the Quad Cities, VITA has:

  • Completed over 12,000 free tax returns;
  • Returned an average of $1,500 per family;
  • Helped bring back over $13 million to the local economy.
