Keeping Medicaid Coverage Within Reach

Stay Covered, Stay Healthy QC is a collaborative effort focused on protecting access to care as administrative burdens to sign up for and retain Medicaid benefits are increasing. Estimates put more than 15,000 Quad Cities residents in the Medicaid Expansion population, which will be impacted by recent changes to enrollment and recertification requirements. This effort is meant to ensure every eligible individual has the resources to maintain coverage as bureaucratic barriers increase.

The expansion population is comprised of individuals who are adults without dependents or adults with dependents whose income exceeds the income limits of traditional Medicaid.

The following links will provide resources for families who want to learn more about changes to Medicaid and resources for agencies seeking to help beneficiaries access care.

Medicaid rules are changing in Iowa

What will happen later this year?

Starting December 1, things will change. You will need to apply for benefits every 6 months. Before, you applied once a year. You may also need to show proof of work, volunteering, school, or income. This will help you keep your benefits.

If you are not exempt, you must do 80 hours a month of one of the following (it can be a mix of all four options):

  • Work: Work full-time or part-time. Work for yourself. Or work a summer job. You can also meet this rule if you earn $580 a month or more.
  • Job Training: Join a job-training program that qualifies.
  • Education: Go to school at least half-time. This can be high school, college, GED classes, or job-skill classes.
  • Community Service: Volunteer with a nonprofit or public group. You can mix work, school, training, and volunteering. Just make sure it adds up to 80 hours a month.
