Turning Voices into Action

Student Voices is a United Way Quad Cities initiative that brings together nearly 1,000 local middle schoolers over three days for small group, guided conversations on how we can drive lasting change. Facilitated by nearly 150 caring volunteers and community members, students use their voice to share key insights into issues ranging from attendance to academic performance to social-emotional well-being.

By leveraging these student voices, together, we’re shaping solutions and turning ideas into action.

Changing the Trajectory of a Generation

When our students succeed in school and are prepared for college and the workplace, we create a thriving community for all. Still, more than 20% of our high school students are not on track to graduate. Middle school has become an increasingly pivotal time in students’ lives.

When we keep students engaged throughout their academic careers, they become stronger leaders and role models for their peers. United is the way that we empower our youth so they have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

People-Powered Progress

Student Voices is inspired by the United Way QC Education Council’s commitment to improve outcomes for all Quad Cities students. It’s made possible through generous support from our Student Voices investors: IHMVCU, Empeople Credit Union, Ascentra Credit Union, and The Family Credit Union.

Special thank-you to the 150 caring Quad Cities volunteers, note-takers and table hosts during our 2024 Student Voices. Thanks also to Western Illinois University and independent volunteers for helping us to aggregate and analyze results, recorded anonymously from students.

Thank you to our Student Voices investors:
