Encouraging Read United Results: 92% of Participating Students Improved Their Reading Scores

September 14, 2022

This is what happens when we work together.

While working with our schools, we began to understand the impact the pandemic had on learning. Only 30% of our third-grade students in our community were reading at grade level. This is a critical statistic that can have lifelong implications. Research shows that students who are not reading on grade level by third grade are four times more likely to drop out of high school. In response, our community rallied. 575 generous people like you, my friend, signed up and dedicated 30 minutes a week to read one-on-one with a student.

School districts are working double time to ensure kids catch up. They need support and help. We’re inspired by the impact that happens when we come together to help students succeed. Thanks to the reading volunteers, teachers, schools, parents, sponsors and donors, 92% of students who participated in the spring Read United program improved their reading.
