Organized Labor

United Way works closely with organized labor to tackle critical issues in the Quad Cities.

Since 1942, United Way and AFL-CIO have partnered together. This unique collaboration ensures our local community has the resources to break barriers, creating opportunities for a better life for all. Much like organized labor, United Way focuses on Education, Income, and Health because these are the building blocks for a good quality of life.

This partnership ensures our community is aware and focused on the needs and issues most important to working families. Our programs and initiatives include:

  • Helping individuals and families in need.
  • National Association of Letter Carriers Food Drive. Every May, Quad-City residents can donate food by leaving the items by their mailbox.
  • Labor Day Parade.
  • Workers Memorial Day.
  • United Way Workplace Campaign. A special thank you to the union leaders and employees who changed lives in our community through their donations.

There are currently three members on the United Way Board of Directors representing organized labor in the Quad Cities.
